Comfort Zone 101

I just took a great big deep breath, thought happy thoughts, and hit the send button on my first web-based newsletter.  I have a few minutes before my next client arrives and I’m going to spend it blogging.  It’s odd to feel anxiety inside me regarding hitting the send button. It’s such a simple thing. But I am reminded about the power of the “comfort zone”.  The wall that surrounds our comfort zone is a wall of fear.  Any time you leave your comfort zone there is a sensation of anxiety or excitement.  I’ve learned that excitement is really just a happier form of anxiety, but it is anxiety nonetheless.

Since my venture with this type of newsletter is new, I am leaving my comfort zone once again.  Susan Jeffers wrote a best selling book in the ‘80s called Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway.  That’s really the only way to expand your comfort zone.  You feel the fear and then push past it.  If you let the fear stop you, your comfort zone will shrink around you.  It will become a prison.  Today I’ve made my world just a little bit bigger.  I’ve invited each of you inside.  My hope is that by stepping into my world for a few minutes, you’ll find some tools to help you make your world bigger too.

Oh my gosh - I'm blogging now!

I can't believe I'm sitting here actually doing my first blog.  I have a commitment to myself that I'm not going to let technology pass me by.  I remember watching my grandmother refuse to learn how to use a microwave oven.  When cooking on the stove became dangerous for her (she didn't want to burn her house down), she had no way to get hot meals.  She wouldn't learn how to pop a Lean Cuisine in the microwave for herself.  That choice cost her precious independence.  It wasn't long before she went to a nursing home.

So I decided that I was going to do my best to stay on top of new technological trends.  And here I am blogging for my very first time!  I'm not sure how this will contribute the maintenance of my independence, but it will keep me current with the times.  My first web based newsletter is about to hit the net.  I've been working on it for months and am very excited to have the first issue almost ready to go.

What has been amazing to me is your response to my "test email".  Who knew so many of you were going respond so positively?  It made me realize how much I miss connecting with you all.  I've been plugging away at life.  I have been seeing clients, being with friends and family, and generally living a fairly quiet life lately.

It will be exciting to see where we go together.  Using this medium to stay in touch opens so many doors.  I've taught people to accomplish their dreams with the tool "conceive, commit, create, celebrate, and stretch" for years.  Today I'm celebrating the accomplishment of creating my website and newsletter.  I am celebrating knowing you and feeling very grateful.  A "stretch" is surely coming.  I don't know what I'll be "conceiving" next, but when I do my blogs will let you know!  Thanks for joining my adventures!
