Generosity of Spirit

Life is an energy exchange of giving and receiving.  The way to have what you want is to give what you need.

-Oprah Winfrey

What does all this talk of Elliot, podcasts, and interviews have to do with me or you for that matter?   (For more about Elliot - click here.)  I recently heard Cheryl Richardson speak on the topic of “generosity of spirit”.  For some reason, Elliot’s show has touched my spirit.  My inner child loves him.  It makes me happy to listen to him and learn about him and his family.  I’ve shared him with my family and one of my bonus children has fallen in love with Elliot, too, and she’s got four boys of her own!

Elliot brings out the “generous spirit” in me.  I don’t have big things to give him.  It’s not like I can give him a television contract (Hey kids' TV people out there he’d do an awesome news show for you guys!)  I don’t have 1000’s of readers to share with him.  I am certain, however, those of you who take the time to listen this week will smile, think he’s awesome, maybe not understand his accent a time or two, but you will get to say hello to the little guy or gal living in your heart.

For me it’s about letting my generous spirit drive the bus without anything to gain.  I’m driving it just because I can and because I feel like it!  It’s an aspect of my personality I treasure.  My generous spirit helped create the Rockin for Rhoda Benefit.   Giving to her filled me up.  It’s like that with Elliot too.  He helps me stay in contact with that part of myself.  Do you have a Rhoda or Elliot in your life to help you express that part of you which is generous?

Today I ask myself, am I in touch with my generosity of spirit?  Am I giving to others what I want and need?  If my life feels empty or lonely, I need to find a way to give more - not less....
